STARTING OVER WITH TRANSFORMERS COLLECTING
I've been getting MDLX figures, but gave up on Hasbro / Takara TOMY a few years ago after getting horrid figures. The joints were so tight I thought they'd break transforming them, or so loose they just hung there. Then a Studio Series 86 Devastator was announced. And somehow, that kickstarted a need to get back into this franchise I so very much dig. So far, so good.
I've restarted by trying to keep up with this year's offerings and backtracking to get G1 season one figures, starting with pricier TFs and working toward cheaper ones (man, that Autobots Stand United 5-pack's gonna alert Mr. Stabby).
Anywho, I figured I'd show a bit of my process when it comes to restarting a collection. And hey, the pics have been an exciting new challenge!
Now, I wonder if energon has the same effect as caffeine?
PICTURE-PERFECT PREORDERS
Not a ton of figures went up for preorder this week, which I attribute to companies holding out for NYCC's Toy Fair (March 1st - 4th), so I'm throwing in all kinds of reissues and Transformers (also reissues)!
The exciting stuff for yours truly's having a shot at getting Ultra Magnus and Beachcomber for MSRP. But I've a feeling a lotta people are gonna be stoked about Mezco's Biker Gomez (currently on waitlist). But hey, the rest of the stuff's also crazy photogenic!
Be ready to talk about a lotta these on Monday's livestream at 7:00 PM EST.
NOTE: Entertainment Earth, eBay, and HobbyLink Japan links are affiliate links, which means I get a cut of the sale at no extra cost to you
THIS WEEK'S PATREON FREEBIES!
Another set of Patreon freebies went out this week!
First up, the wallpapers! There's a dead-forest one that looks like perhaps a battle took place there a ways back and it's trying to come back to life. Then there's a gothic-alley one, because Batman needs even more love! Yeah, there was sarcasm there.
As for the effects, there's a nice, light rain (though that one might just be me projecting my need for springtime in Michigan), and some light rays! As always, remember to put these above your main image layer in Photoshop and set it to "Screen."
And, of course, this week's hi-res image and Photoshop files.
Anyway, if ya dig any of 'em, go get 'em!
THIS WEEK'S VIDEOS
In the past week's livestreams, I got to talk about the first MAFEX figures of 2025! But there was other stuff, too.
On Monday, we chatted photogenic figures, which focuses on figures that went up for preorder the prior week I think'll look great for action figure photos. A lot of the discussion was about The Cursed Dead KIckstarter. Success was looking dicey, but I'm stoked to let you all know it fully funded!
On Thursday, I talked all about stuff I use, and wanna use, for figure pics. Yours truly also answered any figure photo questions the chat had! And I did that all with minimal caffeine.
Click the replays to check 'em out, and remember to join us on the Toypixx livestreams every Monday and Thursday at 7:00 PM EST.
AND WITH THAT...
I'm sipping some caffeine and packing up to start getting stuff to the office. Or am I gonna go clean some carpets? Or possibly just relax and begin anew tomorrow?
Who knows? After all, as the great Indiana Jones once said, "I dunno, I'm makin' this up as I go."
Have fun, and happy snapping!
